The Hunchback of Notre Mom
Ay, Mommies, I see you everywhere…you’re always bending forward: fetching a kid, making a lunch, unloading a car, sitting at the computer. The telltale mommy posture has shoulders rolled forward, chest down, back collapsed. If it’s the motherly tendency to think of yourself last, then thinking of your posture is dead last. I know this firsthand!
It’s the simplest thing, and it’s the root of so many of our discomforts, the beginnings of injuries and chronic issues that land us on the massage table.
I sometimes imagine myself as a posture fairy, with a tiny, pushy wand right between the shoulder blades of all my friends (and myself): chest out, shoulders back, chin up, belly in and breathe…
