Knowing when to slow down

As I was running hills today off Mecca my foot started hurting on the lateral side. I thought no big deal Jess Be Light on your feet and run through the sharp, occasional pain that your experiencing.
Was that the right thing to do? Of course not. 5 hours later when I walk I am getting pain on the same foot. Something I thought was totally minor is now making me wonder.
I think of how hard you push each day to achieve your goal. If you are training for your first 5k, 1/2 marathon, or triatholon, do you just keep on pushing even when your body is telling you maybe you should take a break?
If your body is sending your brain a message PAIN, then my advice to you is to stop, and take it easy. Even if it’s for a day let your body recuperate and then see how you feel. Knowing when to stop and slow down can be priceless.
You may even feel better.
